Tourist Center 3 km north of Feltre.
Its history is not different from Feltre's. For centuries, thanks to its position at the bottom of the mountains, this town was descended for the collection and the working of the wood. As a testimony, there are still many traces all over the town.
In relation to the beauty of the places, and with the good economic opportunities that we were just talking about, many rich and noble families from Feltre decided to come here and build their living quarters. Most of them can be found in the nearby hills of Pedavena (as well as in the hills of Cart) the fact that so many noble and rich people living here during the 1600's and 1700's, created a cultural and lively environment and therefore it soon became a point of attraction for all of the Veneto nobility.
Of the villas still standing, a visit should be paid to Villa Pasòle, built in the XVII century, with its magnanimous shapes so uncommon in the Belluno area. It belonged to one of the most influential families of Feltre that owned woods and land over the mountains of Pedavena.
This house was also the Academy of Erranti headquarters which in the park and in the beautiful hall of this residence, taught about art, philosophy and literature. The villa is surrounded by a huge garden/park.
Other villas, a little more modest, may also be visited: Crico next to lumber factory where a few interesting machines still survive; Lusa in the nearby village of Murle; Vecellio in the village of Norcen (XVI century); Marsiai in Facen.
Pedavena is also a tourist attraction for its Brewery, which has been working since the past century, attached to it are many beautiful and singular rooms with painted walls, huge staircases, columns and copper bar counters.
One of the paintings that shouldn't be missed is the fresco of the "winter garden" by Walter Resenter inspired by the Dolomite legends written by Wolff. The huge painting that ideally follows the great painting cycle of the Italian tradition (it has strong hints to the pieces of work of Venetian and Tuscan artists) depicts the battle of the Fanis people, the legend of the Pallid Mountains and the wedding between Merisana and the king of Rajes (some contemporary people were models for the paintings).
Above the industrial plants for the production of the beer Heineken and Dreher (it is possible to take free guided tours of the production plant) there are a large park and sports facilities (tennis courts and bowling alley), it is always very crowded during the summer because it is one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the territory.
A thick network of roads allows you to visit all of the surrounding hills, villages, country homes, and villas: some of the churches here still hold a few pieces of work of local interest.
Above Mt. Avena (1454 m), easily reachable from Pedavena and Feltre in a 15-minute car ride, following the state road 473 called Passo Croce d'Aune, or from Col Melon, many ski lifts are available to reach the ski slopes.
During the summer, a few country homes that serve as a restaurant are open. Many paths can be taken for easy excursions amongst the woods and fields, which offer a beautiful panorama over the Piave Valley and the Vette Feltrine.
8 km away from the town, there is the Croce d'Aune Pass (1011 m), which connects the Cismon to the Feltrino Valley. During the winter, it's one of the closest tourist stations to the Veneto Plains. -
Halfway between Pedavena and Croce d'Aune Pass, right after the fork in the road named Bordin, which leads to Col Melon and Mt. Avena, in the village of Pian d'Avena a picnic area can be found. This area has barbecues, tables and benches available and other structures that can be employed for horseback riding trails. The access to the area is free.
In Croce d'Aune and in Feltre, in the quarters for the tourist information office the trail of Alta Via delle Dolomiti n.2 ends. This is the main Alpine trail in the area, also called "the legend road," which starts all the way in Bressanone and it offers 14 stops along the most legendary mountains in the Dolomite.
From Pedavena, heading west, it is possible to reach the territory of Fonzaso following the road of "canalet": it is possible to appreciate a smaller valley that runs between Mt. Avena and the hills, which start at Mt. Aurin (744 m). It is an interesting route through tranquil, peaceful environments along woods and fields, which allows you to avoid the road of the Grappa, which is usually very crowded.
