Pieve d'Alpago

Accessibility The town lies a little north of Puos, the county of Pieve d'Alpago rises at the foot of Mt. Dolada (1938 m.). It was inhabited since the ancient times, as proven by the many archeological finding dated back to the Paleo-Venetian age found in Quers and in Plois. Its territory was always a crucial point because the good view over the S. Croce lake area and its nearby Cansiglio Forest. As a testimony of its past, besides the characteristic houses made of stones with graded roofs typical of the Alpagota area, two famous buildings are still very well conserved in the center of the town: the ancient S. Maria parish (unfortunately, the construction has been improperly renovated) and the Falìn villa (XVII-XVIII century). If we move inland, north of Pieve, a visit should be paid to the little village center of Curago where it is still possible to admire many country homes, which date back to the XV and XVI century. Today, Pieve, thanks to its privileged relationship with the nearby mountain, has promoted its sports activity industry becoming one of the favorite spot for ski, tracking and hang-gliding lovers. This last sport, hang-gliding, has recently called many people at the refuge Dolada/Dolomieu (above Pieve) which, thanks to its perfect position, near the Dolomites and the Piave Valley, was elected by the hang-gliders to be the ideal starting point for high altitude flights.
