Puos d'Alpago
|
|
Accessibility Puos is the crossroads and the commercial center of the Alpago area, and according to its toponym should date back to the Roman era (Puteus, well). The town was dominated during the Longobard period and thanks to its privileged, central position inside the Alpago Valley, it soon became the preferred headquarters for commerce and trade during the Venetian domination. Among the families, which became famous at that time, we should remember the Gera Family (coming from the Comelico area), who became very rich and popular and built a lot of beautiful villas. Puos is located between the splendid S. Croce Basin and the sunny and delightful pre-Alpine hills. Today, Puos is very well known for its summer tourism. Also to be remembered is the typical country fare of S. Andrea (at the end of November) that every year summons the local residents for the traditional Palio of the five counties. It is a mule race.
