From Feltre to Santa Giustina (14 km) along the state road heading toward Belluno.
The urban center is mainly positioned over the two sides of the Santa Giustina road.
A few Roman inscriptions were found in the villages of Callibago and Campo; and during the XII century in Formegan, the existence of "Pieve di S. Maria di Formicano" was documented, therefore, we can positively say that it was built during the VIII century.
Afterwards, the Pieve was moved to Ignan probably for economic reasons.
In the S. Lorenzo church, over the Piave shores, by the ferry in Mel, the place where the rafters would stop, in 1393 the bishop Alberto da S. Giorgio was appointed by the lords of Feltre and Belluno.
The neo-classical style parish built between 1782 and 1791 dominates the town, and inside of which a piece of jewelry of the 1600's Venetian painting, the Annunciation by C. Saraceni, is kept.
Amongst the most prestigious buildings, there are the 1700's Villa Bruna in Cassol, Villa Norcen in Dussan, Villa Miari Vieceli dated back to the XVII century in Meano, Villa Avogadro in Bivai, Zugni Tauro in Salmenega.
In Colvago, we can admire Villa Bonsembiante where Carlo Goldoni stayed. It seems that, thanks to this Venetian comedy writer, the town dialectal name Cullach was changed to the gentler Colvago.
In the villas and church's rectories, we can find pieces of work by famous artists such as Marascalchi, Frigimelica, Falce, Turro, etc.
In the right shore of the Piave River, which runs south, as well as in the hillside that climbs northward toward Mount Pizzocco (2186 m), we find a thick network of villages and settlements around S. Giustina. From here, torturous roads lead you to suggestive and impressive places, which are very beautiful for their views over the Piave and for their natural environment. On the opposite shore, there is the mountain chain that is parallel to the river and it can be climbed to the peak of Mount Pizzocco.
The natural aspect of this area is very interesting for its mountain vegetation and fauna in Val Scura, the sub-Alpine natural characteristic that includes the presence of wild plants and low brush (primula tyrolensis and blue bell flower, morettiana, in addition to the endemic Rhizobotrya Alpine).
Since 1973, Val Scura has been a natural reservation and it was included in the network of biogenetic reservation by the European Council and the surrounding area of the Dolomite National Park also encloses it.
For its central position, respective to the valley, Santa Giustina has a strong commercial attraction in comparison with the nearby counties (Cesiomaggiore, San Gregorio nelle Alpi, Sospirolo), to which it is connected by a good road network.
The economy is based on a flourishing agriculture, production and service industries. One of the main leading companies in the paper production has its headquarters here. Building, transportation, computer and industrial maintenance industries are just a few of all of the resources.
