Comelico Sappada
Description
The Comelico andSappada Valleys are situated in the far north-east of the province of Belluno . A large number of watercourses run through the area, the most important of which is the River Piave, which begins at the top of the Val Sesis, at the foot of Monte Peralba (1830m). The valleys are encircled by spectacular mountain groups, such as the Popera, the Brentoni, the Peralba, the Siera, the Terze and the Ferro. Along the Cheese Route in the Comelico area, you will find the Sport Hotel, and the Skay Pizzeria in Padola and further up, in Selvapiana, the Lunelli Refuge; while in Santo Stefano, you can visit the Monaco Sport Hotel and the Krissin Hotel. In all of these places you can sample local delicacies. In the Sappada area you can buy local products from Malga Casera Vecchia, at Sorgenti del Piave and from the Cantina di Montagna Plodar Kelder Dairy, which has a shop next to it in the village, while in Santo Stefano you can visit the De Candido Rossella dairy farm and in Padola, La Genzianella dairy. As you can see from the list below, there are plenty of opportunities to combine cheese-tasting with visits to the wonderful cultural sites and natural landscapes the valleys have to offer.
