Historical information In the summer a tight web of paths allows excursions of every level in a wonderful environment with many refuges and outposts in many high level. For its position it could also be considered a pleasant alternative in the Dolomite area for a stopover. Falcade, with its 8 lifts ( 3 four-seated chair lifts that automatically close, 4 ski lifts and 1 hand pulls) and 35 km of areas with snow blowers. It belongs to the skiing group of Ski Area Trevalli, named this, because it allows one to ski between the valleys of Biois, San Pellegrino and Valle di Fassa. This town offers also to the lovers of mountain climbing many out of the way walkpaths. The name Falcade is derived from the meaning "place where people "sfalcia" (cut with sickle) because here as in other towns within Agordino, before the tourist development the only means of survival was agriculture and farming or as an alternative people emigrated to other areas for work. Before Italy entered the First World War, Falcade was on the border, just over the mountain passes of Valles and San Pellegrino, which communicates with the valleys of Fiemme and Fassa. It was here where the Habsburg empire started. This border didn't represent a barrier of the close by communities, in fact, the inhabitants of Biois valley went to work in the nearby rich valleys. It is only during the 70's with the arrival of the first tourists and the building of the first hotels that the people of Falcade could support themselves and stay within their own town. Falcade not only offers beautiful mountain and an untouched environment but also in the village of Molino there is the study/museum "Augusto Murer" which collects a nice collect of works including sculptures and painting of the great maestro born here who is considered one of the major Italian sculpturers from the '900. A few years ago the first Ski College for skiers was created, a unique example in Italy, that offers the chance to students an opportunity to practice competitive skiing without missing school.
