Alpine Path of the Dolomites no. 2

The Alta Via no. 2 is about 180 km long and consists of 13 legs connecting Brixen (BZ) and Feltre (BL).

The itinerary runs through three provinces (Bolzano, Trento and Belluno), crossing 8 Dolomites groups and 30 mountain passes. The route is on average between 2000 and 3000 meters of altitude, bordering a series o large peaks over 3000 meters high and some small but spectacular lakes.
 
The Alpine Path of the Dolomites no. 2 is also known as the “Way of the Legends”, as it runs through magical places mentioned in ancient tales: from the fantastic Odle cliffs, mythical kingdom of Ladin characters, to the remote glacial valleys of the Vette Feltrine peaks, inhabited for centuries by devils, witches and ogres..

Alpine Path of the Dolomites no. 2

Stage 1 – From Brixen to Rifugio Città di Bressanone

  • Total altitude difference: 1900 m uphill from Bressanone, 435 m from Valcroce, 150 m from the ski lift
  • Trail Lenght: about 27 km
  • Crossing Time: 6 hours and 30 minutes; 1 hour and 30 minutes from Valcroce
  • Signs: no. 4-5 and 17 from Brixen; no. 7 from Valcroce
  • Difficulty: Hiking

Stage 2 - From Rifugio Città di Bressanone to Rifugio Genova

  • Total altitude difference: 500 m (uphill), 650 m (downhill)
  • Trail Lenght: about 15 km
  • Crossing Time: 5 hours
  • Signs: no.4
  • Difficulty: Hiking with easy and short equipped stretch

Stage 3 - From Rifugio Genova to Rifugio Puez

  • Total altitude difference: 850 m (uphill), 670 m (downhill)
  • Trail Lenght: about 15 km
  • Crossing Time: 6 hours

  • Difficulty: Trekking with short equipped stretch

Stage 4 - From Rifugio Puez to Rifugio Franco Cavazza al Pisciadù

  • Total altitude difference: 570 m (uphill), 460 m (downhill)
  • Trail Lenght: about 10 km
  • Crossing Time: 5 hours
  • Signs: no. 2 and 666
  • Difficulty: Trekking with short equipped stretch

Stage 5 - From Rifugio Pisciadù to Rifugio Castiglioni alla Marmolada

  • Total altitude difference: 750 m (uphill), 1280 m (downhill)
  • Trail Lenght: about 19 km
  • Crossing Time: 6-7 hours

  • Difficulty: Trekking with short equipped stretch

Stage 6 - From Rifugio Castiglioni alla Marmolada to Passo San Pellegrino

  • Total altitude difference: 1100 m (uphill), 1200 m (downhill)

Stage 7 - From Passo San Pellegrino to Rifugio Volpi al Mulaz

Stage 8 - From Rifugio Volpi al Mulaz to Rifugio Pedrotti alla Rosetta
