Cesiomaggiore Potato De.C.O

The cultivation of potatoes is among the most important agricultural productions in the province of Belluno.

Today the redevelopment and enhancement of agricultural activities in Valbelluna allowed the certification of the Cesiomaggiore potato as a high quality product, obtaining the De.C.O label (Designation of Municipal Origin).

The original Cesiomaggiore Potato is cultivated according to strict production specifications and can be used as ingredient for many dishes; from gnocchi to pasticcio, from roasted potatoes to the simple and delicious boiled potatoes.

The whole territory of its cultivation is included in the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park which guarantees naturalness, remoteness from major urban centers, far from main roads and industrial settlements.

For its features, this variety of potato is included in the “Carta Qualità” of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park (a circuit including and recommending to tourists and residents the facilities and products for deeply linked to the “Park system”).

In fact the original Cesiomaggiore Potato is cultivated according to strict production specifications which, according to the ancient local agricultural tradition, prohibit the use of any chemical weed-killing, chemical pesticide, dessicative treatment during the harvesting, and germination inhibitor.

The cultivation of this variety of potato is protected by the Municipality of Cesiomaggiore and the La Fiorita Agricultural Cooperative. Every year takes place the Potato Fair in Cesiomaggiore in late August.
