Stage 2: from Facen to Cima Loreto

From Facen, small village near Feltre, this itinerary reaches the Sanctuary dedicated to the Saints Tiburzio and Susanna, along a path that crosses broad-leaf tree woods featuring many capitals. The Sanctuary, popular in Roman times and famous for its water source that, according to tradition, cured whooping cough, offers a wonderful view over the valleys of Feltre and Belluno.

From here starts the thematic path called “Chiesette pedemontane” (Foothill churches) inside the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, that leads you directly to Croce d'Aune mountain pass. In the locality of Pez you will reach the Col Duric mountain refuge (1170 m) and then the Buse meadows that in spring offer wonderful blooms of daffodils and orchids.

Near the ski lifts of Mount Avena you will face an uphill stretch up to Stalle Buse and Casera dairy, reaching the top of Mount Avena where you can admire a breathtaking view over the valleys of Belluno and Feltre. Passing the hang gliders launching point, you will walk through the meadows of Mount Avena and continue towards Campon d'Avena, where archaeological excavations have brought to light many artifacts that helped to establish mans attendance since Middle Paleolithic (40,000 years ago, Neanderthal Man) and Upper Paleolithic (30,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens).

The arriving point of this stage is Cima Loreto, a spiritual site with a magnificent view over the plain of Fonzaso.
