Activities and routes

Belluno is a capital on a human scale, far from the chaos of the largest city-centres and, for this reason, an ideal place for a relaxing holiday for families. The best way to explore the city is on foot. The Civic Museum and the Palazzo Crepadona, where the library and important exhibitions reside, are worth a visit.

Nearby you can visit Mel, with an Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club and a village-borgo that boasts an artistic and cultural heritage of a particular importance and, for fans of ancient history, also a Paleovenetian necropolis and an Archaeological Civic Museum. A few kilometres away from Mel stands the ancient Castle of Zumelle, whose original settlement dates back to the Roman period.

Feltre, a half hour drive away, is one of the most evocative walled towns in the Veneto region and is characterized by the streets of the historic centre, bounded by an uninterrupted succession of sixteenth-century buildings with frescoed facades, mullioned windows and renaissance-style balconies. One must visit the Castle of Alboino, the Palazzo della Ragione which houses the Teatro de la Sena (where Carlo Goldoni took his first artistic steps) and the sixteenth century Palazzo Cumano, the headquarters of the Carlo Rizzarda Gallery of Modern Art.

Trekking: in just a few minutes you can reach trails, the woods, mountains and lakes. The Hotel is at a privileged starting point for walks, trekking routes and excursions on the Nevegal or on the other wonderful peaks of the Dolomites. The various trekking itineraries lend themselves to being explored by both expert mountaineers and newcomers. There are many mountain trails that can be walked through the Dolomites Bellunesi National Park, or those that start from Valmorel (Limana) and follow the enchanting and relaxing itineraries travelled by the Belluno writer, Dino Buzzati.

Bike: the area around Belluno offers cycling enthusiasts really fascinating itineraries by bike or mountain bike. In recent years the Bellunese has been repeatedly chosen as a mountain stage of one of the most important cycling events: the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy). The Dolomites offer routes and itineraries that allow you to travel miles on two wheels through enchanting landscapes and breath taking views, such as the Col Visentin tour, the cycling circle tour in the Belluno Dolomites (the Lake of Mis, the Aurine and Agordo fork), but also the cycling route between the Nevegal, the Col Visentin, the suggestive Passo San Boldo and the Revine Lake (TV).

Free climbing, rafting, canyoning and kite surfing: the area of Valbelluna and the Dolomites allow you to engage in various thrilling activities, the ideal kingdom for rafting, canyoning, kayaking or kite surfing enthusiasts. Rafting and canyoning represent an original summer fun, practiced by the whole family; on the Boite, Caorame and Cordevole torrents it is possible to practice rafting, while the canyoning has excellent routes in the Maè valley (in Longarone and Forno di Zoldo), in Rimonta and Maor, respectively in the municipality of Lentiai and Mel. The Lake of Santa Croce, thanks to the wind that rises late in the morning, it is a paradise for windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing enthusiasts. The most daring can devote themselves to an unforgettable flight experience by launching oneself with a paraglide from the surrounding peaks. The mountains of Belluno are also the ideal place for practicing sport climbing surrounded by a breath taking panorama.

Climbing routes: ranging from the suggestive walls of the Serrai di Sottoguda in Rocca Pietore (BL), which in winter transform into the realm of ice climbing, to the demanding walls of Mount Civetta, reign of the sixth degree. Of course not forgetting the Alta Via delle Dolomites n. 1 which comes from Pusteria Valley to Belluno passing through the Dolomite groups of the Tofane, Pelmo, Civetta and Schiara.

The Dolomites Bellunesi National Park is a vast protected area in the southern part of the province. Easily accessible, it is ideal for families who want to take advantage of their holiday to bring children closer to nature. The presence of the Park offers numerous recreation opportunities for the little ones, such as the possibility of devoting oneself to observing the local fauna and flora.

Characterized by a curated and non-banal menu, the Food Cafe adds to its two classic time slots (lunch and dinner) a new and special, festive Sunday time slot. On Sundays and on holidays, therefore, customers can enjoy an unprecedented brunch (from 10.00 to 15.00) with a personalized menu different from the one offered on the weekdays.

For the lunch break the menu offers simple and tasty dishes, using high quality food commodities in order to meet the needs of a rather diverse clientele: from hotel guests to lunchtime workers, from occasional customers to companies who want to organize breakfasts and business lunches. The area dedicated to lunch includes both the bar and the restaurant (and some outdoor tables during the summer) without any price or menu differences.

In the evening the Astor Belluno changes its face both with its menu, partly different from the one at lunch, and also in the set-up. In fact, the restaurant area is quite distinct from the bar area to create enough privacy. Then, in the evening the restaurant becomes the ideal location for romantic dinners, business appointments or dinners with family or friends. During the summer evenings the restaurant terrace can be used by hotel guests who want to stop and taste something after dinner.

The bar, as well as providing lunch with the same dishes as the restaurant, has its own menu consisting of different types of sandwiches, toasts and small breads.

The Hotel offers a unique showcase where you can buy high quality Italian food products. Among the shelves you can find all the products used by the chefs of the Food Cafe, carefully selected from the best local products and available in home sizes. Ensured good is also the proposal of cold-cuts and cheeses of excellent quality sold to the detail and of the wines present in the wine corner. These are almost exclusively Venetian wine cellars and bordering regions, with the sole exceptions of Slovenia and the French Champagne region.

The Bottega is also take-out: during the week, except Sundays, the dishes prepared at the Food Cafe are also available in special take-out packages.
