The Valbelluna covers the southern area of the province of Belluno, extending from north-west to south along the Piave river. Bordered to the north by the Schiara Range, Mount Serva, the Monti del Sole and to the south by the Belluno Prealps, this wonderful valley offers the possibility to fully experience the magic of the mountains, just a few kilometres from the Veneto plain, with a privileged view of the Dolomites.

What to do and see

The Alpe of Nevegal: Thanks to its proximity to the motorway exit, the Nevegàl is a favourite holiday destination for the inhabitants of the Veneto plain. It looks like a terrace on the Dolomites, offering a splendid view of those mountains, the city of Belluno and the entire Piave valley. From the top of the Visentin, looking south during the clearest days, you can see the Venetian lagoon and the shape of the bell tower of San Marco.

During the winter, it offers 20 km of slopes for downhill skiing, with the possibility of skiing even at night. You go from the most challenging and technical slopes to the wide and always sunny practice runs where the talented instructors of Nevegal offer, for those approaching this sport for the first time and to children in particular, the ideal solution to learn while having fun.

Not just skiing: The Alpe del Nevegal in winter is not just downhill skiing. There are about ten kilometres of trails for those who choose cross-country skiing and many routes for walking in the snow, also with snowshoes. There are also many opportunities for mountaineering skiing and, for thrill-seekers, local guides organise walks with crampons along the frozen canyon of the Brent de l'Art, near Trichiana.

Walking in Valbelluna: Valbelluna is the ideal place for a holiday in contact with nature also in spring and summer. The Alpe del Nevegal offers 100 km of hiking and biking trails, and countless are the routes along the pre-Alpine ridge of the left Piave, to be explored also on horseback. On the right Piave, in addition to the naturalistic trail "Zanardo" in la Stanga, there are pleasant excursions to Mount Peron, to Pala Alta and to the small church of S. Giorgio. Do not miss the flowering spectacle on Mount Serva, on the hills of Zelant and on Pian di Coltura.

The Belluno Dolomites National Park: splendid itineraries that wind through the Belluno Dolomites National Park, with thousands of opportunities to discover its fauna, flora and culture, also by bike: alone or with a guide. This is the largest "wild" area in the north-east of Italy, where large naturalistic areas still remain, a condition for the highest level of biodiversity. Other precious naturalistic jewels are the Reserve of Monte Faverghera with the Botanical Garden of the Eastern Alps and the biotopes of Valmorel and Vedana. The numerous streams of Valbelluna are ideal summer destinations for fans of canyoning, kayaking, canoeing and, of course, sport fishing.

High altitude routes: in the Schiara range, an easy route leads from La Muda to the Bianchét lodge, while a hiking trail from Bolzano Bellunese goes up to the 7° Alpini lodge, by following the last stretch of the Alta Via of the Dolomites no. 1. Also, very popular are the Alta Via no. 3, which ends at Longarone, place of the Vajont memory and the rock-climbing gyms, from Soverzene to Soccher up to Val Bruna. The Belluno tourist airport, which hosts international skydiving competitions, offers exciting flights over the Dolomites; real chills at high altitude!
